This year, for the first time, MSO community celebrated Malaysian Day. This "Amazing Race"-style celebration managed to attract almost 40 members to come and show their patriotism. What was interesting about this event is that instead of on-foot, they had to bike around campus with their respective team to complete the race. The objectives of this event are as follow:
·
A tribute to the formation of Malaysia on
September 16, 1963
·
To create awareness about Malaysia Day among
Malaysians
·
Strengthening relationship among Malaysian students
and families

Members of MSO were divided into four teams; the team who managed to overcome all the challenges and be the first to reach the final destination is crowned champion. There are 2 routes assigned for each group with few checkpoints along the route. Route 1 includes Hannah building, Beaumont Tower and Horticulture garden as its checkpoints while Route 2 includes MSU Union, MSU Dairy Store and Nisbet Building as its checkpoints.
The tasks assigned at each checkpoint were created to test and challenge MSO members' knowledge of Malaysia and to create awareness of Malaysia. The tasks include taking picture with Malaysian flag, matching all six Malaysia Prime Ministers to their ruling years and pin pointing Malaysia's interesting destinations on Malaysia map.
As all groups arrived at the last checkpoint, SVCC, Spartan Village, we proudly sang “1 Malaysia” song; a new song indicating the unity of Malaysians that come from a diverse race and cultural background of Malay, Chinese, Indian and other ethnic groups. The winning criteria were based on none other than teamwork, alertness and not to forget 'Malaysia Boleh' spirit!
